As a hair designer for more than twenty-five years, and a salon owner, I’ve watched my industry grow from five hair products to over 5000. It’s a good thing. These products improve the condition of our hair and solve a myriad of hair/scalp related problems that were once inconceivable.

Over the decades, trends in hairstyling have also changed. Growing older no longer looks the same. Our hair is healthier. Glamorous hair cuts, styles and colors aren’t relegated to the rich and famous. This is the reason I fell in love with the beauty industry. The moment I witnessed the transformation a good hair cut, color and style had on a client, I was hooked. My creative energy was ignited. It has fueled my desire to learn and master my craft’s techniques daily.

With all the emerging changes in the hair industry, there are challenges that need to be met. Training and Education play a key role. Relying on newcomers from Beauty Schools to be fully trained and ready to perform their best is unrealistic. As an experienced Educator, I have trained many hair designers in my career, working with Redken and Goldwell. I consistently educate my own staff, as often as needed. Why? To pay it forward. But more importantly, the better my staff’s skills are, the easier it is for them to serve our clients.
